I've always felt that the NASA Space Program and me were tied together. The Space Program was like a life long connection.
I expected the space program to continue making advancements. I expected a space station like in the 2001 Space Odyssey movie. I looked forward to enjoying the advancements the rest of my life, but then much as I lost my way on who I am and where I'm going so did Nasa and America.
Nasa and the space program are dead as far as I can see. Manned space exploration is over. The US can no longer afford it and there is no desire to achieve anything. Its so sad. Americans were so optimistic in the 1960's. They could do anything and go anywhere. Now we can't do anything and we can't go anywhere. The hope of expanding into the Solar System is dead.
Will Science Fiction die with it? There will be no people living on the Moon or Mars or on asteroids. For that matter will scientific discovery diminish as NASA drifts into irrelevance. The only thing I see American's focused on are jobs, stuff, retirement plans and what Charlie Sheen's doing. How boring. How sad. I've become boring as well. I'm just as guilty. America needs an adventure again. America needs a dream to pursue.
I know I'm probably being too pessimistic but it sure does look discouraging.
